So it was about time for us to throw a party at our house. We haven’t had one since Halloween — since the week our kitchen was ripped out — and most of our friends hadn’t seen the updates yet. Now that all of our major construction is done, it was time. We picked a date for a party, and, well, it also just so happened to be two days after Trixie’s 13th birthday. Obviously we had to have a birthday party for her!
And yes, Trixie is a cat.
I tend to go a little overboard when it comes to any sort of theme. I just can’t help it because it’s SO FUN! This one was super easy. Since Trixie is all black, we decided to do everything in black and white — the decorations, the food, our outfits.
Black and white party ideas:
- This genius (so quick and easy) tutorial to make scalloped streamers, from Oh Happy Day
- Black olives + marinated fresh mozzarella
- White sea salt + black-ish cocoa popcorn from Campbell’s
- Oreos — of course!
- White corn chips + black bean dip
- Blue (black-ish) corn chips + queso
- White peach sangria
- White flowers
- Tiramisu from Corbo’s in Little Italy
- Black polka dot paper straws from Target
This was also the first time we’ve used our trough dining room table by Play-Haus Design for its intended purpose. I mean, let’s face it, it’s a dining table — but it’s really a beer table! It worked awesome and everyone loved it.
And what do you wear to a cat’s birthday party?
I made Andy a t-shirt using iron-on transfer paper and an image of Trixie that I manipulated in Photoshop. My dress with the Leah Goren cat print is from Anthropologie (old). The cat shoes? Well they’re just ridiculous (also old).
It was a really great time with some of our favorite people. And we stayed up soooo late. Trixie, on the other hand, isn’t a fan of guests so she stayed under the bed the whole time. She has enjoyed her new toys, though!
What do you think? Would you ever throw a party for your cat — or do you think we’re just nuts? haha

Not nuts, Finnegan is totally expecting a party in his honor now. I love the theme and loved the party. and the renovations are even better in person than on the blog! Happy Birthday Trixie!
Thanks so much, Annie!
Wish I was there!
Aww, me tooooo, Cheryl!!!
