Burrito Baby Update // Week 27

my baby shower

My friends threw me a baby shower this weekend and it was just wonderful. It was soooo much fun to get to see a whole bunch of my friends, including some besties who drove all the way from Detroit. We ate delicious food, drank delicious mimosas (or fake-mosas, as the case may be) and I opened some of the sweetest, cutest, most thoughtful gifts. But really, it’s not about the gifts. It’s all about how much I love my friends and how grateful I am to have every one of them in my life.

Ok, that got real sappy real fast. Sorry.

I’ll show you a lot more from the shower later in the week, so stay tuned. I love how everything turned out. In the meantime, here’s a little update on what’s going on with this crazy burrito in my tummy!

WEEK: 27 // This week we have a cauliflower! A whole head of cauliflower. That’s like really big, you guys. Our burrito baby weighs about two pounds and is about 14 inches from head to toe. She’s also moving around like a dancing alien ninja cauliflower. I can now see her moving through my clothes on a regular basis, which is just the WEIRDEST. I also kinda like it, though.

FEELING: So good. It’s been a good week. I had a ton of fun setting up for my shower, even more fun once the party started, and Andy and I also made some big progress on our to-do list, which is the best news of all. I even slept through the night last night!! The whole night!! I feel like a million bucks. Now I just need to not catch the cold that’s been threatening me for the last few days. But I mean, how could I not get sick when it went from almost 80 degrees to barely 40 in the same week? Come on, Mother Nature, shouldn’t you be on my side here? I thought moms were supposed to stick together.

DOING: Tackling our to-do list like a BOSS. We’ve made some pretty huge progress in the last few days as far as getting the old house ready to sell, doing a few projects at the new house and just generally feeling a tiny bit less stressed in general. I kind of sort of feel like we maybe might be able to see the smallest light at the end of this moving tunnel way off in the distance somewhere… And that is awesome.

EATING: Pumpkin cheesecake. I had all kinds of plans to make a cake for my baby shower. I had my heart set on a beautiful naked cake made of devils food with fluffy white frosting and a lot of berries on top. Sounds so pretty, right? Except, who has time to make a cake AND move AND clean the house AND make all of the decorations for that party?? Not to mention our Kitchenaid mixer is at one house while the food is at the other house and who even knows where the cake pans are at this point. So, no. Plus, I don’t even like to bake. Instead, Andy and I ventured out to Cheesecake Factory, which is such a completely ridiculous place, but goodness gracious they make a good pumpkin cheesecake.

CRAVING: Starbucks Chai Lattes. In the fall, there’s nothing better than a warm and spicy chai latte. Every time I get one, I already know it means I’m not sleeping that night, no matter how early in the day I drink it, but sometimes that’s just worth the sacrifice. Plus, I think they help fight colds.

WEARING: Maternity tights. I don’t get it. There’s a loop drawstring thing and a button and I just don’t even know what to do, but they’re pretty comfy… as long as no one minds watching me hike up my tights every once in a while. Whatever. Maternity clothes are weird.

MISSING: Um, regular tights without weird drawstring things, obviously…

LOVING: My friends!! I’m going to try not to get sappy again, but seriously you guys, I have the best girls in my life, and I don’t take the time to see them nearly often enough. When we started to set up our baby registry and realized we are completely and utterly clueless and overwhelmed about what we actually need, I sent an email to all of my mom friends asking what products they like and don’t like. Every single one of them took the time to reply and were just so incredibly, pricelessly helpful. It means the world to me to know that they’ll have my back whenever I need help with this whole baby thing (and goodness knows I’m going to!).

So can you believe my third trimester starts next week?? WHOA. Three months to go.
