Kitchen Renovation Progress Report #3

kitchen reno progress report #3

Happy Monday! Happy May! It’s time for another kitchen renovation update! This week was pretty much all about drywall. They had to tape and mud and sand and mud and sand and sand and sand. It’s such a gross, messy process that leaves the entire house coated in dust, no matter how much you try to contain it.

So Much Dust! This picture was Saturday morning when we stopped by to drop off something. We stayed with Andy’s parents while they were doing the worst of the sanding, to keep Joey away from it.

Once the drywall was done and everything was cleaned, they started painting. We’re using the same color in the kitchen as everywhere else, Sherwin Williams “Snowbound” on the walls and trim.

They also replaced the subfloor because old water damage had rotted some areas. Another issue is that the old subfloor would have caused the kitchen tile to be at a different level than the living room wood floors, instead of the smooth transition we wanted.

Andy and I spent the whole weekend looking at counters. After having REALLY frustrating and disappointing experiences at the big box stores and their poor customer service and horrendous lighting, we randomly stopped at a specialty stone place that made us feel SO much better about our options.

Right now our idea is to do a solid white quartz on the long, back wall and a marble-look quartz on the island. Our favorites of the marbles are the bottom left and the similar one on the bottom second-from-the-right. We like the white background with grey veining. What do you think?

So what’s up next? A couple more days of painting, then floors and cabinets! We’re getting close!
