Kitchen Update: Open Shelves

When we designed our kitchen we made the decision to not install any upper cabinets. Between all the lower drawers and a wall of pantry cabinets, we have plenty of storage space, and it also saved us quite a bit of money. Instead of cabinets, we decided to add a couple of shelves, mostly just for somewhere to put pretty things.

I love that our shelves give us an opportunity to add a bunch of bright color and life to our otherwise very, VERY white kitchen. The colorful pots are from Ikea, and I collected the succulents from a bunch of different stores — though I found the best ones at the grocery store (Heinens) of all places!

We put our glasses on the bottom shelf because we like the juxtaposition of the bright plants with the mostly clear glass, so it’s not toooo busy. Our glasses are a mix of vintage and new. I love the little blue and silver fish on these vintage glasses we got at All Things for You at the CLE Flea a few years ago.

We also just hung this print “Details” by Matt Crump that we L O V E. It’s a photo of the Saguaro Hotel Palm Springs — the hotel we stayed at for our first trip to P.S., aka, one of our favorite towns on earth. Originally we bought this print for our living room, but once the kitchen was done, we realized it was way more perfect for this spot. The cute little cacti are from Lakewood Plant Company.

So that’s the latest update to the kitchen! Dare I say it, but I actually think this room is DONE?! Holy moly.
